Stars line up for '8'
Anthony Edwards, Morgan Freeman, Christine Lahti, Rob Reiner, Marisa Tomei, Cheyenne Jackson and Yeardley Smith are on tap to appear in the one-night-only Broadway reading of Dustin Lance Black's play "8." Roles for the thesps have not yet been announced. Show centers on Perry v. Schwarzenegger, the federal case filed by the American Foundation for Equal Rights to overturn California's Proposition 8, which nixed same-sex marriage in the state. Storyline is framed by the case's closing arguments and also includes reenactments of memorable moments from the trial, based on transcripts, interviews and observations of the proceedings. Case concluded with the judge finding Prop 8 unconstitutional, a ruling that has since been appealed. Starry fundraiser for AFER and legit activist org Broadway Impact is helmed by Joe Mantello ("The Normal Heart"). Event is set for Sept. 19 at the Eugene O'Neill Theater.
